MY EXPERIENCE
Involvement on Campus/Leadership Experience
My involvement with various organizations on campus has given invaluable experiences that shape my perspective of our class and how I can best represent its students. My former position as an Admissions Summer Intern and current position as the Admissions Access Intern (working to increase access and inclusion for prospective students in the admissions process) has taught me about the diverse demographics that shape our Middlebury student body. I am also a player on the Women's Waterpolo Team and First-Year Counselor on ResLife which has taught me about the importance of team and community building on campus. I plan to also utilize my prior experience as a Student Member on the Hawai'i State Board of Education to begin to identify barriers that are preventing Middlebury from soaring as an institution. Additionally, I was one of two representatives from the State of Hawai`i in the 2018 United States Senate Youth Program which equipped me with the ability to effectively communicate with administrators and politicians in power. I plan to utilize my experiences at Middlebury, from high school, and your own experiences to assist me in representing our class in the SGA Senate. |
SGA Experience and Projects
I am currently serving as the Co-Director of the Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Since the summer, I have been meeting with different administration and staff to gain information on where the institution currently stands going into the 2019-2020 Academic Year. We are looking to collaborate with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on their Strategic Plan, develop more financial literacy workshops in collaboration with the SGA Senate, and advance the Student Ambassador Program with the Admissions Office (learn more about this below). From this position and my experience on the committee, I have really gained an understanding of the functioning of the Student Government Association and the potential of collaboration between SGA Cabinet, SGA Senate, and administration. During the 2018-2019 Academic Year, I served as a member on the Institutional Diversity Committee (now known as the Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) on the SGA. This past year, we started the Student Ambassador Program which is designed to increase outreach and recruitment to high school students located in rural, low-income serving, and ethnically diverse areas across the globe. The program is designed by students for students. Current Middlebury College students will be trained, by the Admissions Office and the Student Ambassador Coordinators, to give information sessions to high school students in their hometowns and the surrounding area. The program will be launching a pilot program this fall and applications will open to the entire student body in the spring. The committee will be working directly with Administration from the Admissions Office to make this an effective program for the college's outreach. |
